Keep Kernewek Alive
‘A project recognising
the issue of the diminishing
Cornish language
& how this can be brought
back to locals by teaching tourists
conversational phrases’
Cornish was a prominent language many decades ago it was an important part of the cultural identity and Celtic heritage of Cornwall. We want to bring this language back to its roots and get more people speaking this declining language.
With Keep Kernewek Alive we aim to educate tourists and holiday makers on the basics of Cornish and how they can help bring this Celtic language back to the people of Cornwall.
When you head off on holiday abroad you would always learn the basic conversational language to get by so why can’t this be the same for recognised national minorities like Cornwall. We believe that all languages and the locals that speak it should be treated with the same respect where ever they may be in the world.
Our main ambitions are to:
Teach basic Cornish to people visiting this beautiful land
Show Cornish people that there is hope for their language and identity to return
